Day Trip #1 | Explore Pagasitikos
And your trip begins! Drive towards ‘Pinakates’, the next village after Agios Georgios Nilias. On your way there, we suggest you make your first stop in this picturesque village to see the wonderful village square with its 400 year old plane tree and ll up your water bottles with amazing spring water from the ‘lions’ spring taps .
Your next stop is ‘Vizitsa’ village where you can visit the old traditional houses that have been restored and don’t forget to visit the Women’s Cooperative Foundation “Hesperides” to get some local food products and naturally preserved pickles, jams and dried herbs.
Next stop is ‘Milies’. Here you can visit the old church in the square with unique frescos dating from 1741 to 1774. In ‘Milies’ you have the chance to purchase some fresh fruit for your picnic at the beach. On your way out of ‘Milies’ you can stop at “Korbas Bakery” and get some local products. Specifically we recommend the local olive bread with onions, the cheese bread and the hand made pies they offer.
And off you go to the beach! Here are many options to choose from: If you seek some quiet beach you can go to Lefokastro Bay it is a little treasure! Careful* if you decide to go to Lefokastro via Afissos be warned that there is a very steep uphill 100m long concrete road that can be challenging to navigate, especially if there is incoming traffic. Alternatively you can go to Lefokastro via the road that leads to Argalasti. On your drive down (coming from Argalasti junction) you should park your car before entering the village at the bottom of the road. You will see some parked vehicles and a small peach tree with a water fountain below. Here is where your little trek starts. Follow the path down. It might be a bit difficult for very young kids. After your swim, we suggest you try Olympus Tavern for fresh fish. Ask Stefanos if he has langoustines or let him surprise you with his fish cooking improvisations! Another beach option would be to visit Kalifteri, just before Afissos village. A beach which may get busy at times, but nice and easy for the kids. Here is a beach bar and a taverna at one end of the beach. Kala Nera is organised and busy. Here you can do a lot of food shopping and there is a great butchers, “Evanthia” if you wish to make a BBQ at your villa.
