Milina

Milina is located in south Pelion, 49km from Volos and is a tourist resort with visitors mostly in the summer months.The name Milina is derived from the slavic word Mlin that means watermills. Until 1948 Milina was part of the neighbouring village Glafko.The blue-green color fo the sea,the picturesque coves and the green of the olive tree grovesof the surrounding area attracts many visitors every year.A number of ruines of ancient town Olizon, mentioned by homer in his writings, where discoverednear milina.
By the "natural harbor"located along the seaside road of milina,Ruines of an old christian church from the 5th-6th century were also discovered there.A lot of sailing boats visiti the area of milina and may dock by valtoudi because it offers refuge by high winds.Near Milina there are also two small islands of Alatas and Prasoudas.The island of Alatas or Galatia located in the south east part of pagasitikos gulf. The name Alatas refers to the salt marshes tha are located across the water on the mainland.
The monastery of Ag. Saranta is located on the island and is worth visiting.
On the island of Prasouda you may visit the monastery of Zoodocho Pigi.
