Reading time: 4-5 minutes
Hello, dear friends!
Every year, just before the season opens, we put the retreat centre together from the beginning, and every year it fills us with the same wonder: how did this all come together so beautifully, right on time?
Years of experience, a devoted team, and a bit of mountain magic make it happen.
This season, 4,416 seeds became 1,595 thriving plants, and 28 retreats filled Pelion Homes with people, laughter, and life.
Now, a few days before we take down our tent, we want to share what this season taught us.
1. Leave space for the unexpected.
We have been running retreats for years, and we still learn something new every season. Every group brings its own energy, the land and the weather have their own rhythm each year, and no two retreats are ever the same. That’s part of what makes this work so alive.
Over the years we’ve learned to prepare well and then leave enough room in our plans to be flexible. That space is where we can adapt, welcome the unexpected, and give each group exactly what it needs. Some of the most memorable moments of the season happened in the pauses we never scheduled.
2. If you take care of the land, the land takes care of you.
This year we planted, harvested, and ate most of our food from our own gardens. Sitting down at a table where the vegetables were picked that morning made one thing clear: the land always gives back.
It asks for patience and daily attention, and in return it feeds us and everyone who comes to stay with us. If you take care of the land, the land will take care of you.
3. Invest in your community.
Nothing here happens alone. The people around us, our team, our neighbours, and the villagers who have been part of this mountain for generations are what hold everything up. Invest in them with your time, your attention, and your gratitude. A community is built slowly, one small kindness at a time, and it carries you through every season.
4. Dig your hands into the ground.
At least twice a week, put your hands in the soil. It’s good for the garden, and just as good for your mind. There is something about the earth, the smell of it, the slowness of it, that quiets a busy head. If you’re looking for a little mental health inspiration, start here.
5. Be patient, and take one baby step a day
Nothing is perfect from day one: not a garden, not a retreat center, not a new habit. Everything we’ve built here started small. You don’t have to do it all today. Take one baby step, then another tomorrow. Over a season, those small steps add up to something you couldn’t have planned
6. Offer
If we could keep only one lesson, it might be this one. Offering matters more than we can say, and it doesn’t have to be big. A cup of warm tea or a few fresh veggies from the garden is enough.
This season we gave at least one basket a week to our community and the people of the village. It was never about the size of the basket. It was about keeping something moving, from the land to us and from us to each other. We received far more than we gave.
What we’re grateful for
We are grateful for another full and beautiful year.
We’re grateful for meeting new people from all over the world and for seeing old friends come back. It never gets old to watch someone arrive tired and leave lighter.
We’re grateful for our community, which grows every year.
And we’re taking two small reminders with us, which we offer to you too:
- Keep practicing, even when there’s no time. No matter what your practice is, whether meditation, yoga, art, or music, ten minutes a day is enough. We are not looking for perfection. Showing up matters more than how long you stay.
- Rest. No matter how much work you have, find 20 minutes in your day to simply be. Nothing else is required of you in those minutes.
See you in March
For one more year the tent will come down, and for a few months the mountain will share its winter beauty with us.
We can’t believe how fast time goes. We will be here to do it all again in March.
Until then, enjoy your hibernation.
You can find our 2027 retreat list here, and you can stay in one of our villas during the winter here.
If you’re looking to organise a retreat with us, Nicholas is always happy to chat with you.
With much love,
Pelion Homes
